Learn more about the wonder that is DJ Shannon-Action Slacks below and GET EXCITED YA’LL!
DJ Shannon “Action Slacks” Wiberg hails from the MIGHTY Mid-West where she grew up on a healthy dose of Motown and Chicago soul. This is where she began her studies on the history of African-American music. In 1994 she migrated to the Northwest and continued her formal education focusing on the history of R&B and soul music and its connection to the Civil Rights Movement and the fight for social justice.
In 1996 Wiberg began producing and hosting a weekly radio program “Soul Kitchen” on KAOS in Olympia, Wa. During its 9-year run, Soul Kitchen stayed dedicated to the mission to foster a greater appreciation of soul music and the pioneering artists who made the music. This was done by exploring the music’s roots by presenting musical retrospectives and conducting interviews with such artists as Irma Thomas, Allen Toussaint, Solomon Burke, Ruth Brown and Ann Peebles to name a few.
DJ Shannon also produced several soul music radio documentaries including “In the Shadow of a King,” a nationally broadcasted retrospective of the soul music recorded in the wake of the 1968 assassination of Martin Luther King.
At the turn of the millennium, DJ Shannon “Action Slacks” took her act to the dance floor. She has been spinning grooves to make you move ever since. After nearly 15 years fighting for soul, Action Slacks is very pleased to see the recent resurgence in 1960s soul music and she wants to make sure that people remember its roots.
